Magnesite bricks play a crucial role in steelmaking. They provide reliable and durable refractory linings. These bricks withstand high temperatures and resist chemical corrosion. Lining of Steelmaking Furnaces: Steelmaking uses high-temperature furnaces like BOFs, EAFs, and ladle furnaces. Magnesia bricks line these furnaces due to their high-temperature resistance, ranging from 1500°C to 2000°C. The refractory lining protects the vessel from intense heat, ensuring structural integrity and preventing damage.
Resistance to Basic Slag: Basic oxygen steelmaking uses basic slag with a high pH. This slag can be corrosive to refractory materials. Their chemical stability under alkaline conditions prolongs the refractory lining’s service life, reducing maintenance costs and downtime.
Refractory Repair and Maintenance: Steelmaking furnaces face thermal cycling and mechanical stress. This leads to wear and erosion of the refractory lining. Magnesia bricks are used for repair and maintenance due to their availability and ease of installation. They can be replaced or patched easily, restoring the furnace lining’s integrity and extending equipment life.
Controlled Thermal Conductivity: Magnesia bricks have low thermal conductivity. This minimizes heat loss from the furnace, contributing to energy efficiency. It reduces the heat required to maintain operating temperatures, lowering fuel consumption and production costs.
